1.2m x 1.8m Fire Blanket for Commercial and Home Use
When a fryer flares up or someone’s clothing catches fire, you need something that works in seconds with no training. NeonSafety’s fire blanket 1.2m x 1.8m is one of the largest standard sizes available. It gives you enough coverage to smother a fire across a wide cooktop or deep fryer, or to wrap fully around an adult.
It’s a simple, reliable addition to
any fire safety plan. We supply it to cafes, restaurants, workshops, schools, aged care facilities, and homes across Perth and Western Australia.
Why Choose the Larger 1.2m x 1.8m Size?
Smaller 1.0m x 1.0m blankets suit a domestic stovetop. The 1.2m x 1.8m size gives you more coverage where the risk is bigger:
- Commercial kitchens: covers deep fryers, woks and multi-burner ranges
- Workshops and garages: smothers small fires on benches and around equipment
- Personal protection: long enough to wrap around a person whose clothing is on fire
- Schools, labs and childcare: extra coverage for science rooms and food tech areas
- Caravans, boats and BBQ areas: a compact backup where water isn’t an option
Key Features
- Size: 1.2m x 1.8m
- Material: Woven fibreglass fire-resistant fabric

How to Use a Fire Blanket
- Pull both tapes sharply downward to release the blanket from its case.
- Hold the blanket by the tapes and wrap the top corners over your hands to shield them.
- Place the blanket gently over the fire, working away from your body. Don’t throw it.
- Turn off the heat source if it’s safe to do so.
- Leave the blanket in place for at least 15 to 30 minutes so the fire can’t reignite.
- For a person on fire: Stop, Drop, Roll, then wrap the blanket around them to smother the flames.
Always call 000 if the fire is not fully out or spreads. A fire blanket is for small fires only. Never use water on a cooking oil fire.
Where to Install Your Fire Blanket
Mount the blanket on a wall near the exit side of the hazard, around 1.2m to 1.5m from the floor, so you can grab it without reaching over the fire. AS 2444 sets out the selection and placement of portable fire extinguishers and fire blankets for workplaces. If you’re not sure, our team can advise on the right location for your site.
Inspection and Maintenance (AS 1851)
Under AS 1851, fire blankets in commercial and workplace settings should be inspected every six months to confirm they’re present, accessible, undamaged and ready to deploy. A fire blanket is single-use, so replace it after any use.
NeonSafety provides AS 1851 fire equipment inspections across Perth. We can also look after your test and tag, fire extinguisher servicing and emergency equipment in a single visit, keeping your workplace compliant without the hassle.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a 1.2m x 1.8m fire blanket used for?
It smothers small fires by cutting off oxygen. The large size makes it ideal for commercial kitchens, workshops, and wrapping a person whose clothing is on fire.
Can a fire blanket be reused?
No. Fire blankets are single-use. Once deployed on a fire, replace the blanket.
How often should a fire blanket be inspected?
AS 1851 recommends inspecting fire blankets in workplaces every six months. NeonSafety offers this service across Perth.
Is a fire blanket better than a fire extinguisher for kitchen fires?
For small cooking oil fires, a fire blanket is fast and simple. Commercial kitchens should also have a wet chemical extinguisher for larger Class F fires.
